I am Melanie Moreno and my dream of becoming a journalist began long before I truly understood what journalism was. When I was a little girl, I wrote a letter saying that one day I wanted to be a great journalist. Back then, it was just a child’s wish, but as I grew, that dream started to make sense. I discovered that what I loved most was listening to people, learning about their journeys, and telling their stories with purpose and empathy.
I was born in Bucaramanga, Colombia, and from an early age I found ways to express myself through violin and dance. Both taught me the beauty of emotion, rhythm, and discipline, qualities that now define the way I tell stories. Over time, I realized that journalism, much like art, is a form of expression that can connect hearts and create change.
A few years ago, I made one of the most transformative decisions of my life: moving alone to Orlando, Florida, to pursue my studies as an international student. It wasn’t easy, but it taught me independence, courage, and resilience. Living far from home helped me understand what it truly means to build bridges between cultures, and it strengthened my commitment to use journalism as a way to connect people across borders.
I consider myself curious, empathetic, and deeply passionate. I put my heart into everything I do. Through my work, I aim to inspire, inform, and empower, sharing stories that remind us that no matter where we come from, we all have something meaningful to say.
